Meet the bird behind the needle, our owner and designer Jenna McKown. She was born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawaii where she became a seamstress and fashion designer by trade. Seeing a need for better fitting swimwear than what was available at the time became the reason we can soar our wings in Stone Bird apparel. In Hawaii wearing a bikini was a daily part of life and the smaller the better! Only one store was selling the desirable trendy Brazilian style bottoms fit for dancing along the sandy shores practically naked. And for a pretty penny too. These are known for little coverage and enhances the ASSets (if you know what we mean). So Jenna decided she would make her own, starting just for her self and friends. Initially the goal was just to turn some heads (insert cat call here... meowww) dating sites weren’t a thing so the beach was how to meet surfer boys, ooohhlala!!! So during her studies as a Fashion Designer At the University of Hawaii she decided the only way to stand out was to create her own. Strangers would approach her as she would strut her stuff walking from one end of the beach to another wanting to also wear the pieces she had created. And from there a brand was born.
